Course Requisite Technical Skills

In order to succeed in this online course, you must be comfortable working with technology. At a minimum, you must possess the following technical skills:

  • Ability to use the Internet in an effective and efficient manner, including installation and management of browser plug-ins and add-ons.
  • Basic knowledge about the operation of a computer, file management, and software installation.
  • Working knowledge of the Canvas learning management system.
  • Ability to proficiently search the web for information
  • Ability to download and print information from websites
  • Ability to download, view, and/or print PDF files

  1. Lavin's Radiography for Veterinary Technicians, 6th edition (2017) by Brown and Brown (Elsevier)
  2. McCurnin's Clinical Textbook for Veterinary Technicians, 9th edition (2017) Textbook and Workbook by Bassert and Thomas (Elsevier)

Recommended/Optional Books:

  • Practical Diagnostic Imaging for Veterinary Technician, 3rd edition (2004) by Han and Hurd (Elsevier)
  • Handbook of Radiographic Positioning for Veterinary Technicians, 1st edition (2009) by Sirois, Anthony and Mauragis (Cengage Learning)

 

Other Technologies and Materials

Required materials for this course are:

  • Clean white lab coat with NOVA Veterinary Technician name tag  (available from Loudoun Campus bookstore)
  • Radiology dosimetry monitoring badge - veterinary mentor practice site must provide for clinical practice; Program will provide for campus lab visits and fieldtrips
  • No open-toed shoes or sandals. Completely closed rubber-soled no-heeled shoe.
  • Wear long pants or scrub bottoms under lab coat. If you have long hair, please tie it back or pin it up for all labwork and live animal fieldtrips.
  • Reliable Internet access

Course Policies

Attendance Policy: 

You are expected to log into the Canvas course site at least three times a week to participate in discussions and submit assignments. Attendance is mandatory to all on-campus lab sessions; must complete and document all essential course tasks to satisfactorily meet course and Veterinary Technology Program requirements.

 

Grading Turnaround Time: 

Completed assignments will be graded within seven (7) days from the assignment due date and portfolio/projects within fourteen (14) days from the assignment due date.

 

Late Work Policy: 

Late assignments will not be accepted.
