Course Requisite Technical Skills

In order to succeed in this online course, you must be comfortable working with technology. At a minimum, you must possess the following technical skills:

  • Ability to use the Internet in an effective and efficient manner, including installation and management of browser plug-ins and add-ons.
  • Basic knowledge about the operation of a computer, file management, and software installation.
  • Working knowledge of the Canvas learning management system.
  • Ability to proficiently search the web for information
  • Ability to download and print information from websites
  • Ability to download, view, and/or print PDF files

Must have access to a digital videorecorder and video editing software for essential skills video.

Lab Preparation

  • Set of surgical scrubs, any color or style - your preference
  • Closed-toed, rubber-soled shoes - any color and style
  • White labcoat
  • Nametag (magnetic-backed NOVA Veterinary Technology name badge available for purchase at Loudoun Campus bookstore or their online bookstore)
  • Hair scrunchie for long hair
  • Non-sterile, powder-free, non-latex exam gloves - several pairs in your choice of color
  • Sterile Powder-Free Surgical gloves - 4 to 6 pairs minimum, see hand-sizing/glove chart folder below
  • 1 to 2 disposable prepackaged surgical scrub brushes (if you wish to practice scrubbing at NOVA),
  • 1 bonnet-style surgical cap
  • Stethoscope, various style options - your preference
  • Stethoscope name tag optional and available at Loudoun Campus bookstore
  • Inexpensive wristwatch with a second-hand or stethoscope watch (Smartphone or digital watches not a substitute)
  • Pocket penlight, optional
  • Lister bandage scissors (not EMT scissors)
  • Basic pocket multi-function calculator, inexpensive and with a square-root key (Smartphone or digital calculators not a substitute)
  • Black ink pen
  • Black fine-tipped Sharpie, optional

Course Policies

Attendance Policy:

You are expected to log into the Canvas course site at least three times a week to participate in discussions and submit assignments.

You must attend both on-campus lab sessions and submit skills video in order to pass the course, regardless of total points accumulated.

 

Grading Turnaround Time: 

All assignments and assessments that are completed and received by the due date will be graded and associated grades will be posted in Grades of Canvas within 7 days of the due date. 

 

Late Work Policy: 

Late assignments will not be accepted.
